The Causeway – Surf Spot Overview
We run our lessons here when there’s a bit more swell in the water, as this side of Bigbury offers more shelter and protection from the larger sets. It’s a great fall-back location when conditions get a bit too heavy elsewhere.
- Wave Quality: The waves tend to be cleaner and more manageable, especially for learners, though they can still pack a punch.
- Wave Size: Generally bigger toward the right-hand side of the beach.
- Best For: Beginner to intermediate surfers when the main beach is too exposed.
Hazards:
- Rocks are present at both ends of the beach.
- During stormy conditions, watch for sweeping currents across the bay.
- Rip currents can form at either end, so always stay aware of water movement and know your exit points.
