Mark Smith – Surf Instructor / Lifeguard

Originally from Staffordshire, Mark started surfing only a few years ago, honing his skills as a surfer on various family holidays to the coast. In 2011 he went out to Australia, where he trained as an instructor with Manly Surf School, situated on Australia’s first ever surfing reserve, and located just around the corner from Australia’s historic surfing capital of Freshwater Beach. After spending 6 weeks training, he headed up the East coast of Australia, stopping off at some world renowned breaks such as The Pass and Shipwreck’s off Byron Bay, and Snapper’s Rock off Gold Coast.

He found home at Crescent Head, NSW, where he spent a further three weeks at a remote beach camp improving both his surfing and instructor skills. Having returned from Australia he started working for us in May of 2011 enjoying a very successful first season.

Mark is highly competent and at ease in the water, having spent many years swimming competitively. He enjoys a challenge and likes to make sure that everyone gets a great experience of surfing. For him a successful lesson is every student catching an awesome wave with big grin on his or her face.
Mark is an outgoing person with a good sense of humor.

This year, he joins us for his second season having spent the winter as a fresher at Northumbria University.
